nicolas séry

Nicolas Séry, a filmmaker from Réunion Island, questions the limited presence of the Creole language and the island’s history in society, as well as their lack of representation and education, both in France and Réunion. For Nicolas, portraying Réunionese characters speaking Creole on screen becomes a form of activism.

In 2023, he was awarded HLM sur cour(t) and S’engager pour l’avenir, a Canal+ Réunion call for projects, for his second short film, Kabri i manz salad. This film addresses racism against the Mahoran and Comorian Muslim communities in Réunion. Through comedy, it aims to hold up a satirical mirror, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own biases.
