Synopsis

In 2014 Phadiel wrote to me: “Lulu; at the Cape of Good Hope the two oceans do not mix.”It’s a mystery that scientists can’t solve. It is the last place Phadiel went with his wife Kulsum before returning to prison. A few kilometers to the east lies Mitchells Plain, a town built for the Coloured population during apartheid. This is where Kulsum and their two children live. I return to the country of my childhood to film it through my encounter with this family. Our intersecting gazes and imagination construct a certain reality of this country, mirroring its landscapes: contrasted and cruelly beautiful.
