Direction: June Balthazar
Synopsis
My grandmother is a mystery. Since she lost her memory, the mere mention of her is enough to make anyone’s body stiffen. What are you hiding from us, Marie Lourdes, in your thick silence? Using a process akin to engraving, this animated film borrows the archaeologist’s gesture of digging and revealing.

June Balthazard lives and works in Paris. After studying at the Haute École d’Art et de Design (HEAD) in Geneva and at Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains, June Balthazard has developed an artistic practice that blends films, videos, and installations.
In recent years, her work has explored the ways in which humans coexist with the rest of the living world. Through cinematic objects, she juxtaposes documentary approaches with forms that are further removed from reality: speculative narratives, animation, special effects, and more. These forms, far from distorting reality, instead illuminate and transfigure it. In this sense, her films are imbued with a sense of magical realism.
Her work has been exhibited and screened in institutions such as the Centre Pompidou Metz (France), Luma Arles (France), the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (Taiwan), and the Chengdu Museum of Contemporary Art (China), as well as at international festivals.
She is currently working on the film Millennials, produced by Les Films du Worso.
