ABOUT
The very first edition of the Indian Ocean International Film Festival will take place from 8 to 12 April 2024 in Reunion Island.
Supported by the Hors Champs Réunion association, on the initiative of France Télévisions, the FIFOI is the 3rd and last Festival of the France Télévisions group in Overseas France, after the FIFO in Polynesia and the FIFAC in the Antilles-Caraïbes, which are real highlights for documentaries.
The FIFOI also features fiction, short films and animation, reflecting the vitality of Reunion’s film scene.
More broadly, its aim is to highlight the cinematographic creations of the Indian Ocean territories.
In 2024, the Festival offers a journey through the eyes of filmmakers from Reunion, Mauritius, Madagascar,Mayotte and the Comoros, as well as from the east (Kenya, Zanzibar, Tanzania) and south coasts of Africa, not forgetting India, with a selection of contemporary and daring short films and documentaries.
The Professional Meetings, a forerunner of the future Film Market that will be launched in 2025, will be an opportunity to weave a new international network of Reunionese professionals.
There will be no feature-length documentary competition or professional jury for this first edition, but an evening of competition for short films (fiction, documentary, live action and animation), which will be put to the vote of a Youth Jury made up of students in Cinéma.
The audience will also be fully invited to participate, by voting for their favourite short film, which will be awarded the Audience Prize on the closing night of the FIFOI 2024, with the financial support of France Télévisions.
Unseen feature films, documentaries and dramas will frame this session.
